چکیده

This paper studies the evolution of self appraisal, social power and interpersonal influencesfor a group of individuals who discuss and form opinions about a sequence of issues. Our empirical modelcombines the averaging rule by DeGroot to describe opinion formation processes and the reflected appraisalmechanism by Friedkin to describe the dynamics of individuals’ self appraisal and social power. Given aset of relative interpersonal weights, the DeGroot-Friedkin model predicts the evolution of the influencenetwork governing the opinion formation process. We provide a rigorous mathematical formulation of theinfluence network dynamics, characterize its equilibria and establish its convergence properties for all possiblestructures of the relative interpersonal weights and corresponding eigenvector centrality scores. The modelpredicts that the social power ranking among individuals is asymptotically equal to their centrality ranking, that social power tends to accumulate at the top of the hierarchy, and that an autocratic (resp. democratic)power structure arises when the centrality scores are maximally non-uniform (resp. uniform).

Balanced clusters and diffusion process in signed networks

In this paper we study the topology effects on diffusion process in signed networks. Considering a simple threshold model for diffusion process, it is extended to signed networks and some appropriate definitions are proposed. This model is a basic model that could be extended and applied in analyzing dynamics of many real phenomena such as opinion forming or innovation diffusion in social netwo...

Modulus Consensus Protocol Design of Discrete-Time Opinion Dynamics on Social Networks Problem description: Opinion dynamics, aiming at describing the evolution of opinions among large populations with social

Opinion dynamics, aiming at describing the evolution of opinions among large populations with social influence, have been widely inspected and a host of models have been reported. However, most of them are considered on cooperative networks which is not the common case because there exist not only cooperative but also antagonistic or competitive relations, e.g., competition between commercial, ...

A Theory of the Evolution of Social Power: Natural Trajectories of Interpersonal Influence Systems along Issue Sequences

This article reports new advancements in the theory of influence system evolution in small deliberative groups, and a novel set of empirical findings on such evolution. The theory elaborates the specification of the single-issue opinion dynamics of such groups, which has been the focus of theory development in the field of opinion dynamics, to include group dynamics that occur along a sequence ...

Agency, Structure and the Power of Global Health Networks

Global health networks—webs of individuals and organizations linked by a shared concern for a particular condition—have proliferated over the past quarter century. In a recent editorial in this journal, I presented evidence that their effectiveness in addressing four challenges—problem definition, positioning, coalitionbuilding and governance—shapes their ability to influence policy. The editor...

A dual modelling of evolving political opinion networks

Abstract We present the result of a dual modeling of opinion network. The model complements the agentbased opinion models by attaching to the social agent (voters) network a political opinion (party) network having its own intrinsic mechanisms of evolution. These two sub-networks form a global network which can be either isolated from or dependent on the external influence. Basically, the evolu...
